  • Hantaviruses as emerging viruses: Molecular epidemiology, evolution, virus-cell interactions, molecular pathogenesis, development of new diagnostic approaches 
  • Molecular mechanisms of reactivation and pathogenesis of virus infections in immunocompromised patients (human cytomegalovirus, hepatitis B virus) 
  • Molecular mode of action of DNA-recognizing enzymes (restriction endonucleases, DNA methyltransferases) and their use in molecular diagnostics

About 300 publications in scientific journals (PubMed), about 100 contributions to book editions in medical and molecular virology.
