Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)

We are interested in the diagnostics, epidemiology, and clinical presentation of MERS-CoV infections in humans and potential animal reservoirs.

Ecology and evolution of zoonotic viruses

Here, we mainly work on RNA viruses, causing diseases in humans and their relatives in other animals. Currently, we focus on the evolutionary origin of human Coronaviruses and a novel zoonotic Hepatitis E genotype found in dromedary camels (HEV genotype 7).

Development of novel diagnostic tests for emerging viruses

We develop and evaluate novel tools for the diagnostic of emerging viruses.
